Catering Glass Guide: Beer

The Glass Guide for Beers will help you choose the right glass for the perfect beer!

Beer glass guide

Did you know that beer glasses have a specific shape for a good reason? Bottom-fermented beers taste best in a tall, narrow glass, such as a flute or a pilsner glass. Top-fermented beers deserve a short, bulbous glass, which gives the beer's aromas more room to breathe. To help you get started, you will find our beer glass guide in this blog.

Beer glasses for lager

To ensure your customers enjoy their beer to the fullest, the right beer glasses are very important. The most popular beer is a lager (pilsner). So, let's start with the ideal lager glasses. With lager, it is important that the hop aromas and malt scents reach the nose directly. Thin, straight glasses like the pilsner or flute are therefore the most suitable for this.

Beer glasses for wheat beer (Weizen)

Weizen glasses are tall beer glasses shaped like an hourglass. The height of the glass allows you to better appreciate the color of the beer. When a Weizen is poured correctly, the head of foam rises just above the rim of the glass. In the past, Weizen glasses always held half a liter of beer, but nowadays you see them in smaller sizes too. View our beer glasses for catering.

Beer glasses for white beer (Witbier)

White beer (witbier) is not the same as Weizen. These are two different types of beer. You serve them in completely different glasses as well. You serve white beer in a sturdy, thick glass. Often, these glasses are angular and shaped like an octagon, but a round glass also works well!

Beer glasses for bock beer

Bock beer is served in tulip-shaped beer glasses. The shape of these glasses helps to distribute the aromas in the right way. The tulip shape also helps to create a thick layer of foam. In addition to bock beers, heavier blond beers are also often drunk from tulip-shaped beer glasses.

Beer glasses for IPA

When you see an IPA glass for the first time, you probably don't immediately think of a beer glass. This beer glass has a special shape. The sharply tapering top of the glass ensures that you get a cloud of aromas in your nose with every sip. Because of this shape, the scent is retained until you bring the glass to your mouth. The spacious bowl of the glass allows the aromas to develop well, and the tapered base minimizes heat transfer.

How do you choose the right beer glass?

When choosing beer glasses, always keep drinkability in mind. Residual oils, fats, or detergents can suppress the carbonation of beer, even in small amounts. Brewers are usually proud of the beers they brew. Don't be afraid to ask for information about the ingredients. We can also provide you with good advice on choosing the right beer glass.
